O. Palmer Robertson
Teaching Elder
Palmer grew up in Mississippi and was converted at the age of 15. He immediately sensed God’s call into the gospel ministry. After ordination, he began his ministry by pastoring a church in Picayune Mississippi. Since that time he has been going back and forth between the pastoral ministry and seminary teaching. He has taught at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson MS, Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia PA, Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis MO and Knox Theological Seminary in Fort Lauderdale FL. Palmer served as organizing pastor of the PCA church in Malvern PA while teaching at Westminster, and was the pastor of Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church in Maryland for 7 years.
Early in his Christian life he felt a call to missions but it was not until 1992 that the call was realized when he began teaching at African Bible College in Malawi. From 2004 to 2019 he served as the Director and Principal of African Bible University in Uganda.
He has written a number of books including The Christ of the Covenants, The Christ of the Prophets, The Christ of Wisdom, The Flow of the Psalms, A New Testament Biblical Theology. Christ of the Consummation Vol 1: The Testimony of the Four Gospels, and The Israel of God: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.
Palmer was married to Julia and from his first family has three grown daughters, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The Lord took Julia home after a bout with cancer and in 1996 he married Joanna, an Englishwoman he met in Malawi. Together they have three sons who grew up as missionary kids in Uganda.
After 27 years in Africa Palmer and Joanna returned to the USA in June 2019. They then launched Consummation Ministries, with the theme “All God’s Word for All God’s World Consummating in Christ.” Palmer occasionally preaches, teaches and speaks at churches and conferences. But his main focus is writing. Palmer is currently working on the second volume of his New Testament Biblical Theology, on The Testimony of Acts and Paul, from a distinctively redemptive-historical perspective.
